LET’S GET FLYING
Introductory Flight / Discovery Flight
An Introductory Flight, also referred to as a Discovery Flight, provides you with a brief yet immersive experience inside the cockpit, under the guidance of a qualified flight instructor. This opportunity allows you to grasp the feel of being in control of an aircraft.
Typically, the aircraft utilised during the Discovery Flight mirrors the type you will train on if you decide to enroll in lessons.
While Discovery Flights offer an enjoyable way to sense the pilot's role and enjoy some scenic views, they are designed to be more structured than mere tourist or scenic flights. They serve the purpose of acquainting you with the expectations of flight training.
During an Introductory Flight, the instructor conducts a comprehensive ground briefing, delving into the essentials of becoming a pilot, outlining training structures, presenting the school's array of different aircraft, and more. The ultimate objective of a Discovery Flight is to leave you well-informed, having enjoyed an experience aligned with your potential long-term aspirations!
Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
The Private Pilot Licence is the first stage of training for any aspiring pilot. SAO will assist and facilitate students in booking the initial flight medical, as a pre-requisite to obtaining your Student Pilot License (SPL). Upon clearance by an aviation medical examiner, SAO will submit and obtain your SPL from the SACAA.
Upon enrolment, you will receive a pilot training starter kit that includes all relevant course materials, access to shared resources and detailed information on your course process. Your orientation will include an introduction to Rand Airport airspace, aircraft fleet and SAO processes, policies, and facilities.
The PPL licencing phase includes significant knowledge development and associated written exams as an integral part of the training curriculum.
